Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM), a German university with about 15,000 students, needed to modernize and standardize its IT and student services ahead of expected enrollment growth. The institution sought an easy, flexible way to integrate a custom user database with a new virtual desktop infrastructure and other campus systems to improve access to learning resources and reduce administrative overhead.

After evaluating five products, THM chose NetIQ Identity Manager to centralize identity lifecycle management, connect the legacy database to the VDI, and link learning platforms, library and payment systems, and physical access controls via flexible connectors. The deployment improves visibility into users (helping eliminate duplicates), boosts security and operational efficiency, enables student self-service for tasks like password resets to reduce support load, and provides a scalable, cost-effective foundation for future services.
