A NetIQ Case Study
Sony Italia, the Milan-based arm of Sony, was operating 30 aging local servers that were struggling to keep up with growing data volumes and user numbers. Rising heat output and electricity costs, combined with a limited budget that ruled out replacing all hardware, made server virtualization the most viable option to restore performance and reliability for country-specific systems.
The team deployed SUSE Linux Enterprise Server with built-in Xen and the High Availability Extension, and used PlateSpin Migrate to virtualize 12 physical servers onto two new high-availability hosts. This consolidation enabled live migrations with minimal downtime, balanced workloads and automatic failover, reduced hardware footprint and energy use, and delivered a faster, more reliable environment — with plans to virtualize an additional 10 servers.
