A NetIQ Case Study
Sheetz, a family‑owned convenience store chain with more than 434 locations and 14,500 employees, faced a growing training challenge: regional managers in distant stores were spending up to three days and significant travel costs to attend centralized managerial sessions, and prior attempts to run offsite training were hampered by unreliable VPN connectivity. Central IT was asked to find a way to reduce the time and cost burden while maintaining the quality of instruction.
Sheetz deployed NetIQ Access Manager alongside Identity Manager to deliver browser-based, seamless access to the company’s training environment, enabling offsite sessions that work exactly like those at headquarters. The solution was implemented rapidly, removed travel and time constraints, and cut training costs significantly—about $30,000 saved per class (previously $1,100 per attendee versus sending two facilitators at $1,600 each). It also set the stage for web single sign-on and a one‑stop portal for corporate applications, improving remote access for hundreds of users.
