RWS, a global leader in translation and language services, faced a growing challenge: securely managing access to highly sensitive client documents—patents, legal papers and other confidential material—while many translators worked remotely. The Language Solutions Division in Germany needed a reliable, standards-compliant way (ISO 27001) to protect data after its existing authentication solution began experiencing reliability problems that threatened business continuity.

RWS deployed NetIQ® Advanced Authentication with implementation partner MTRIX and rolled out Yubico YubiKey hardware tokens plus smartphone apps (HOTP/TOTP) to provide centrally managed, fine‑grained multi‑factor authentication from its Berlin servers. The solution cut licensing and administration costs to about a third of competitors, simplified policy and device management, improved security and compliance, and reduced IT support time—saving roughly 30 minutes of administrator effort per user.
