A NetIQ Case Study
Regione Toscana, the regional government in central Italy serving about 3.7 million citizens and employing over 3,000 staff, needed a cost‑effective way to manage user accounts spread across many disparate systems. Fragmented identity data created inconsistent records and risked former employees retaining access, while Italian privacy laws required robust protection of personal data; the region therefore aimed to simplify provisioning, strengthen password and access controls, standardise handling of personal data, and reduce administrative costs.
Working with Net Studio, Regione Toscana implemented Micro Focus/NetIQ Identity Manager in a staged rollout that synchronised multiple data stores into a central LDAP, federated authentication across 20+ core systems, enforced password synchronization and strong authentication, and provided approval workflows and audit trails. The deployment improved compliance and visibility of user access, sped up provisioning and deprovisioning, reduced IT support workload and helpdesk calls, and eliminated many repetitive tasks for the IT team.
