Owens Community College, a two-year institution in northern Ohio offering 130 programs and more than 200 online courses, struggled with manual account provisioning for thousands of users each semester and a clumsy VPN client process. The college needed simpler user management, single sign-on for students and faculty, and stronger FERPA-compliant controls.
By implementing NetIQ Identity Manager, Access Manager and SecureLogin with help from Weisberg Consulting, Owens automated provisioning from a Banner-fed workflow and delivered web-based single sign-on to on-premise and cloud apps. Provisioning now takes about 10 minutes instead of 24 hours, the college avoided adding at least two FTEs, simplified administration, and improved security and compliance.
