A NetIQ Case Study
NHS Tower Hamlets, a primary care trust serving the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and providing central IT for 36 general practices and 12 health centres (about 2,800 users), needed to centralise services and simplify user management. The move to a single corporate domain made manual creation, editing and deactivation of accounts impractical, and the new system had to integrate with Microsoft Active Directory and the NHS Electronic Staff Record (ESR).
The Trust deployed NetIQ Identity Manager under an NHS enterprise agreement, using the Identity Management Baseline and a Salford Software implementation to speed integration with ESR; after an in-house data-matching exercise the solution went live in 10 weeks. The rollout delivered self-service profile and password management, faster account deactivation, accurate reporting for governance and licensing, and set the stage for automated provisioning and reduced helpdesk load—reducing risk of unauthorised access and improving operational efficiency.
