Metropolitan - Customer Case Study

Metropolitan, the fourth-largest listed life insurer in South Africa (insuring some 4.3 million people), needed to speed up and make reliable its recovery from server failures and improve disaster-recovery testing. A set of “day one” Windows servers—including Active Directory and SQL Server instances—could previously take anywhere from 20 minutes to as long as two days to recover because DR processes were manual and unpredictable.

Metropolitan deployed Micro Focus PlateSpin Forge appliances to protect up to 25 physical or virtual workloads, initially protecting 15 servers and adding a second appliance for problematic systems. The solution simplified failover and failback, enabled simulated failovers for testing, and cut recovery time to about 40 minutes for servers (full corporate network back within three hours), reducing administrative effort and making migrations to VMware easier.
