Johannes Kepler University - Customer Case Study

Johannes Kepler University (JKU) in Linz, Austria, is a large interdisciplinary institution with about 19,000 students and 2,500 staff, admitting roughly 4,000 new students each year and managing some 1,450 short-term teaching contracts. That large, frequently changing population made it hard to ensure timely, secure access to applications and data and to promptly revoke rights when people left.

JKU implemented NetIQ Identity Manager (with partner COMPAREX), integrating roughly 25 systems—including email, databases, SAP HCM, KeplerCard and eduroam—to automate provisioning, deprovisioning and master-data workflows. The solution gives users a single login, reduced manual account work (saving departments from creating hundreds of accounts each semester), improved data quality and security, and now supports management of about 86,000 student and 11,000 staff accounts.
