Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is the state agency providing fire, rescue and hazmat services across New South Wales, operating 338 stations and 663 vehicles. IT faced the challenge of managing identities for thousands of employees and volunteers while offering identity-management-as-a-service to tens of thousands of external users and extending identity to assets like vehicles, requiring fast, accurate synchronization across many systems.
By implementing and upgrading NetIQ Identity Manager, FRNSW automated provisioning and deprovisioning across SAP, AVL and turnout systems, creating a central, rules-based identity and asset management environment. The solution supports nearly 100,000 identities, enables business-led administration, improves response readiness, and reduces day‑to‑day identity management to a team of about ten staff.
