Federal Statistical Office - Customer Case Study

Germany’s Federal Statistical Office, which employs 2,780 people across Wiesbaden, Bonn and Berlin and runs more than 300 IT systems, needed to simplify and secure its user-management processes. Manual account creation and removal across many systems meant onboarding could take three to four days, cleanup of former users was slow, and fragmented controls increased security risk.

The Office deployed NetIQ Identity Manager with eDirectory as a metadirectory—integrating HR, Active Directory, Exchange and other systems—and automated role-based provisioning workflows with partner G+H. The six-month rollout delivered single sign-on for 30+ applications, cut provisioning time to one day (up to 75% faster), removed roughly 50% of inactive accounts, reduced admin workload and improved access visibility and security.
