A large European insurer with offices in six countries, more than 5,000 employees and over USD 8 billion in annual premiums needed tighter control of access to sensitive customer data, stronger compliance and modernized online services — all without increasing administration costs. The company implemented NetIQ Identity Manager (on SUSE Linux) and NetIQ Consulting connected to 30 applications using LDAP, Active Directory, SAP, Lotus Notes, SOAP and RACF connectors, and integrated identity management with SAP HCM and a workflow engine. This centralized, automated provisioning reduced new-user setup from about four hours to roughly three minutes (a 98% time saving), cut a repetitive eight-person team to five skilled staff, standardized access for 50,000 customer portal users, and improved compliance through comprehensive permission reporting and monitoring.
