Bancomext - Customer Case Study

Bancomext, a state-owned Mexican development bank serving small and medium exporters with more than 500 employees, needed to modernize its identity management to meet new government regulations requiring a single solution for all online banking electronic resources. The bank faced security risks and operational inefficiencies: users managed multiple usernames and passwords, access provisioning was manual and could take two days, and adding or removing users required input from several departments.

Bancomext implemented NetIQ Identity Manager and Access Manager on SUSE Linux to automate user provisioning, enforce password policies, enable role-based access, and provide single sign-on with token-based multi-factor authentication and a self-service password portal. The rollout—900 users to date, scaling to 2,500—cut account setup time by 66%, reduced helpdesk calls by 15%, strengthened compliance with banking regulations, and tightened overall security.
