A NetIQ Case Study
Astellas Pharma, a global R&D-focused pharmaceutical company, needed to improve the reliability and efficiency of IT support for its worldwide research network. Monitoring about 1,000 servers, the IT team was overwhelmed by tens of thousands of alerts during upgrades and monthly patches; a paper-based maintenance process, manual embargoes by outsourced operators, and thick check sheets meant important alerts were often buried and maintenance windows suffered time lags.
NetIQ Aegis, integrated with AppManager, replaced paper forms with web-based maintenance requests that automatically suspend and resume monitoring per server, record one event per incident, and centralize history and approvals. The change eliminated needless alerts, removed manual time lags, improved regulatory compliance and operational efficiency, and set the stage to extend Aegis for further automation and disaster/recovery uses.
