A NetIQ Case Study
Asahi Shipping Co., Ltd., a Japan-based marine transportation and vessel-management company, was running mission-critical systems on servers housed in its offices, leaving it exposed to equipment failure, natural disasters and growing data volumes that threatened business continuity. After the Great East Japan Earthquake and amid expanding vessel-management services, the company urgently needed an easy-to-operate backup and BCP solution without relying on an in-house systems department.
Working with Yume Technology, Asahi migrated email to a cloud service and deployed PlateSpin Forge at a data center, backing up changed files over an Internet VPN with overnight processing. The setup lets the company switch to virtualized server images in under an hour (backups finish in about 30 minutes), removed daily tape handling, reduced downtime and operational errors, boosted efficiency and productivity, and delivered a rapid, cost-effective business continuity plan with plans to expand virtualization and thin-client access.
