NetGuru worked with Openbooks, a company aiming to be first to market with a new ebook distribution platform. Openbooks’s challenge was to create a pay-it-forward business model and an ebook conversion engine that would let readers download full ebooks for free, then pay what they wanted after reading.

NetGuru built the platform in close collaboration with Openbooks’s team, using frequent deployments, an efficient workflow for rapid iteration, and tools like Algolia to speed development. The result was Openbooks.com, launched in March 2015 and featured at the London Book Fair in April 2015, with 84,916 ebook downloads, an average payment of $2.63, and no DRMs introduced.
