Leading Canadian Law Firm Stewart Mckelvey Takes ‘just A Dms’ Mantra to New Heights

Stewart McKelvey, the largest full‑service law firm in Atlantic Canada with six locations and hundreds of staff, faced an obsolete OpenText eDocs system that limited matter‑centric collaboration, mobility, email and app integration, security and its “Paperlite” goals. To address these challenges the firm selected NetDocuments (including ndMail, ndOffice and ndFlexStore) as its cloud document management platform.

NetDocuments implemented a cloud DMS with ndFlexStore for geo‑aware storage and HSM customer‑managed keys, supported by the NetDocuments implementation team and Traveling Coaches for change management and training. The rollout converted and trained 565 users (225 lawyers) across six locations in nine months, cut document types from about 1,300 to 50, and achieved user adoption above 97%, delivering a smooth go‑live and stronger governance, search and mobile collaboration.
