Case Study: Yahoo! JAPAN achieves real-time, high-performance content delivery with NetApp StorageGRID

A NetApp Case Study

Preview of the Yahoo Japan Corporation Case Study

Yahoo! JAPAN adopts NetApp StorageGRID for its platform service, delivering millions of submissions of content daily

Yahoo Japan Corporation, Japan's largest portal site, needed to overhaul its critical Castle content delivery platform to optimize it for a container environment and HTTP access. The platform, which handles millions of data submissions daily from thousands of partners, required a highly resilient, high-performance object storage solution that could ensure service continuity. Their stringent requirements included real-time synchronization between data centers over 500km apart, S3 compatibility, and multitenant management.

NetApp addressed these needs with its StorageGRID solution, specifically the all-flash SGF6024 appliance. The implementation provided a single namespace across two active data centers, enabling real-time synchronization without distance constraints and ensuring outstanding system availability and fault tolerance. This allowed Yahoo Japan to guarantee service continuity for vital data and flexibly apply data protection policies using StorageGRID's ILM capabilities. The NetApp solution successfully met all of the customer's requirements, providing a high-performance storage foundation for their containerized applications.
