Case Study: Yahoo Japan Corporation achieves cloud-native persistent storage for Kubernetes with NetApp

A NetApp Case Study

Preview of the Yahoo Japan Corporation Case Study

Yahoo! JAPAN adopted NetApp AFF, FAS, and Astra Trident for stateful services in the world’s largest Kubernetes infrastructure

Yahoo Japan Corporation, Japan's largest portal site, was adopting Kubernetes-as-a-service (KaaS) for its vast infrastructure but faced the challenge of introducing stateful applications that require persistent, high-reliability storage into its secure multitenant environment. They needed a solution that was highly compatible with Kubernetes and could bring cloud-native speed and reliability to their social infrastructure.

NetApp implemented a solution using its AFF and FAS storage systems orchestrated by the Astra Trident CSI driver. This provided dynamic storage provisioning, completely independent tenants for each service department, and the high data availability required for critical infrastructure. The result is a stable yet aggressively developed platform that supports over 200 services, allowing Yahoo Japan to manage stateful applications with the same cloud-native speed and security as their stateless services.
