WebSupport Propels Cloud Service Quality and Broadens Business with NetApp Storage for OpenStack and CFEngine

WebSupport, Slovakia’s largest web-hosting provider (about 90,000 domains, 35,000 websites, 700 VPSs and ~59,500 customers), was struggling with a grown infrastructure of hundreds of isolated servers and internal storage that made scaling, availability, automated load balancing and data migrations cumbersome. The team set a high performance bar (40,000 IOPS) and needed a centralized, high‑availability storage platform that could handle ~30% annual data growth while reducing administrative overhead.

WebSupport consolidated onto a NetApp FAS3250 with Data ONTAP, Flash Pool SSD caching and native NFS integration with OpenStack Grizzly and CFEngine, using thin provisioning, deduplication, Snapshot and cloning features. The result: the 40k IOPS target was met, administration time dropped, servers became stateless and easier to deploy, backup-as-a-service was launched, availability reached ~99.8%, storage use fell by about 30% through dedupe, and the platform now scales to support growth and regional expansion.
