Universal-Investment Opts for a NetApp EF540 Flash Array for 100% More Performance and Future-Readiness

Universal-Investment, a leading German investment company managing €170 billion in assets with about 500 employees, needed to dramatically boost I/O performance for its 4 TB Oracle database that supports ~600 users and high‑compute applications like Profidata XENTIS, gateway services and in‑house reporting. Rapid data growth and strict archival requirements compounded the challenge, making faster, highly available storage essential to maintain competitive service levels.

Universal-Investment deployed four NetApp EF540 flash arrays across its two data centers and migrated the entire Oracle infrastructure. The move delivered about 600,000 IOPS per data center at <1 ms latency, doubled overall performance (jobs run twice as fast), cut many processes—like backups—from over an hour to ~13 minutes and reduced cache rebuilds from 3 hours to under 15 minutes, while leveraging existing NetApp systems for strong price‑performance and high availability.
