Case Study: Touro Infirmary achieves scalable, high-performance healthcare data management and handles 800% EDM growth with NetApp

A NetApp Case Study

Preview of the Touro Infirmary Case Study

Touro Infirmary Is Built on NetApp to Deliver Healthcare Value While Managing an 800% Increase in EDM Data

Touro Infirmary, a 160‑year‑old nonprofit hospital in New Orleans, needed an IT infrastructure that could absorb rapid change — from stricter regulations and new clinical systems to hurricanes and skyrocketing data. Its biggest challenge was managing an 800% increase in enterprise document management (EDM) data while delivering always‑on access, compliance, disaster recovery, and cost control across physical and virtual environments.

Touro built an agile storage foundation on NetApp unified systems and Data ONTAP, supporting VMware virtualization and mission‑critical applications (EMR, EDM/DSS, PACS, Exchange, SQL, financials) with SnapMirror replication to a secondary site, deduplication, FlexClone, and automated management. The result: nondisruptive scalability for explosive data growth, around 25–35% capacity savings from dedupe, dramatically faster restores (single‑mailbox and VM recovery in minutes versus days or weeks), near‑zero critical‑server downtime, and lower operational costs while meeting continuity and compliance needs.
