A NetApp Case Study
Syracuse University, a private research institution, was facing rapidly growing and diverse datasets that strained its IT infrastructure and budget. Information Technology Services needed a more affordable way to store and access administrative and research data and a unified platform to move data between private and public clouds while sustaining performance and availability.
ITS built a tiered multicloud data fabric using NetApp AFF for high‑performance workloads, NetApp FAS for cost‑efficient bulk storage, and NetApp ONTAP for dynamic tiering and replication. The solution consolidated drive‑based arrays (a six‑to‑one reduction), lowered storage costs for less active research data, moved over a petabyte into the data center for better access and protection, and improved operational performance, research collaboration, and long‑term IT budget sustainability.
