Swinton Insurance underpins a sweeping transformation programme with a NetApp storage Platform

Swinton Insurance, the UK’s largest high‑street insurance retailer with 350 branches and about 2.2 million live policies, was undertaking a major transformation to move from bespoke brokerage software to a web‑based platform supporting ~3,000 advisers and 250,000 quotes a day. That shift — combined with a heavily virtualised environment — created a need for a resilient, flexible storage platform that could deliver consistent performance, reliable backups, easy management and the ability to scale and analyse larger datasets.

Swinton implemented NetApp FAS8000 and FAS3250 with clustered Data ONTAP to provide unified, scale‑out storage and management tools (Snapshot, SnapMirror, SnapVault, FlexClone, etc.). The new platform enabled fast provisioning of replicas for development, robust, consistent backups across 350 sites, easier day‑to‑day management, improved analytics for big‑data opportunities, and simple sideways scaling to support growth — underpinning the company’s transformation and operational resilience.
