Case Study: Saudi Telecom Company achieves market-leading, cost-efficient OpenStack cloud with NetApp

A NetApp Case Study

Preview of the Saudi Telecom Company Case Study

STC Relies on NetApp to Operate the Middle East’s Largest OpenStackBased Public Cloud

Saudi Telecom Company (STC), the largest telecom operator in the Middle East and North Africa serving over 100 million customers, set out to expand its cloud business using OpenStack to avoid vendor lock-in and cut costs. STC needed highly flexible, enterprise‑class storage to support competitive pricing, rapid service rollout, and a scalable public cloud platform for its Bluvalt initiative.

STC deployed NetApp hybrid flash storage (FAS series with ONTAP) tightly integrated with OpenStack (Cinder, Manila, Swift) to enable self‑service provisioning, advanced data efficiency, nonstop operations, and rapid cloning across multiple data centers. The solution delivered ~25% lower operational expenses, higher availability and scalability, greater customer choice through the STC Cloud Marketplace, and the interoperability and agility needed to pursue regional cloud leadership.
