Solomon Islands extends services to more citizens

The Solomon Islands Government engaged NetApp partner FLEXdata Solutions to refresh its centralised FlexPod data centre ahead of the Coral Sea Cable System arrival. The country needed a highly available, on‑premises platform that could embrace cloud, secure sensitive financial data, and provide comprehensive disaster recovery given Ring of Fire exposure, while extending government services to citizens across 900+ islands and about 7,000 users.

FLEXdata upgraded the FlexPod with NetApp AFF220 and ONTAP, delivering FIPS 140‑2‑compliant encryption, hybrid cloud readiness, and robust disaster recovery plus ongoing knowledge transfer to local engineers. The upgrade boosted performance and availability (accelerating payroll and other apps), grew capacity from ~30TB to 400TB, reduced duplication and costs through centralisation, and enabled remote citizen services like health checks, education and licensing.
