Seminole County Public Schools Transforming Education with Technology

Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS), a large Florida district serving 66,000 students across 67 schools, needed more powerful, flexible, and efficient storage to support growing digital learning, improve website and application performance, and replace slow, costly tape-based backup processes. An aging SAN left sites and services slow (web responses over a minute) and backups and recoveries taking days—full backups could take up to 32 hours and off-site restores required long, manual processes.

Partnering with Greyson Technologies, SCPS deployed a NetApp FAS8040HA hybrid array running clustered Data ONTAP, NetApp OnCommand Performance Manager, and an AltaVault AVA400 appliance sending encrypted backups to Microsoft Azure. The upgrade cut backup windows by more than 80%, eliminated tape, reduced recovery times from days to minutes or seconds, delivered application responses in seconds, and achieved a 15:1 deduplication ratio—improving user experience, lowering risk, and enabling scalable support for virtual learning and future IT initiatives.
