A NetApp Case Study
SCHOTT Schweiz AG, a subsidiary of the SCHOTT Group specializing in pharmaceutical glass packaging, faced the challenge of managing massive data volumes from its global supply chain. Their highly automated, 24/7 production environment, governed by strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations, required a new data infrastructure. The existing setup was inefficient, and any change to systems holding production data triggered a lengthy re-certification process. They partnered with vendor NetApp to find a solution that could ensure compliance, availability, and support for future innovation.
NetApp, with partner Bechtle, implemented a solution using NetApp ONTAP clusters with AFF and FAS systems. This created a GAMP-compliant infrastructure that physically separated production and enterprise data, simplifying management and avoiding costly re-certification. The solution provided robust data protection with SnapMirror and SnapVault for disaster recovery and increased backup frequency with Snapshot technology. For SCHOTT Schweiz AG, NetApp delivered the speed and reliability needed for critical applications, ensuring they meet delivery dates and strengthen the pharmaceutical supply chain. The systems also require less space and energy, supporting the company's climate goals.
