A NetApp Case Study
Linn Benton Lincoln Education Service District (LBL) supports public education across three Oregon counties—serving about 89 schools and roughly 37,000 students—by pooling resources for 26 component school districts to deliver equitable, cost‑effective services. Faced with underfunding, staff cuts, and rapidly growing digital data (one gradebook’s data grew 4× in three years), LBL needed scalable, always‑available storage and better data management to maintain student records, run online programs, and keep administrative tasks from overwhelming teachers.
LBL implemented a NetApp‑based solution (AFF A300, FAS 2650, ONTAP, SnapManager, Virtual Storage Console) and a fully virtualized VMware environment with integrated snapshots and Veeam backups. The new infrastructure sped up applications, enabled quick VM cloning and rollback, centralized student data, and eliminated single points of failure—freeing teacher time, cutting costs, improving data protection and availability, and allowing districts to reinvest savings into instruction and student support.
