Reach plc is the UK’s largest newspaper publisher, operating 70+ websites and reaching about 110 million unique browsers monthly. With time-sensitive print and digital operations hosted in a hybrid environment, Reach faced a costly DR footprint in a London data center and needed a more reliable, scalable disaster-recovery solution that met strict RTO/RPO targets without breaking the budget.

Reach moved DR to AWS using NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP from AWS Marketplace, combined with Amazon EBS, S3, EC2 and automated AWS CloudFormation templates in a pilot‑light design. The result: automated, repeatable failover with near-instant recovery and as little as 10 minutes of data loss, elimination of the DR data center, a 50% cut in storage costs, and reduced cloud infrastructure requirements.
