A NetApp Case Study
Galatz Radio (Army Radio) needed to preserve and make accessible decades of programming dating to 1950. With 130,000 hours digitized (including 90,000 hours recovered from fragile analog tapes), the station faced slow, risky tape-based workflows, no reliable backups, and limited access for reuse in education and cultural programming.
Working with NetApp (Cloud Volumes ONTAP and AFF) and migrating storage to Microsoft Azure, Galatz solidified backup and recovery, enabled storage-efficiency features, and moved archives into a mirrored cloud environment. The result: access times dropped from weeks to minutes, storage needs fell (30% from efficiency features), and the organization realized major cost savings (over 70% in data center and storage costs), enabling plans to publish its programming globally.
