ICON plc, a global contract research organization headquartered in Dublin, faced the challenge of managing massive, rapidly growing clinical-trial datasets across 93 locations while delivering public-cloud speed, high resiliency, strict availability, and cost-effective long-term retention to accelerate trials and support AI/ML analytics and regulatory needs.

In partnership with Island Networks, Cisco, and NetApp, ICON standardized on a NetApp data fabric—FlexPod (FAS), E-Series, StorageGRID, FabricPool, and SnapMirror—consolidating data, tiering cold data to object storage, and enabling fast migration of acquired systems. The solution improved performance and uptime, cut storage costs, created a new archival revenue stream, accelerated trial timelines, and empowered AI/ML workflows to help bring therapies to market faster.
