A NetApp Case Study
ON Semiconductor, a global semiconductor manufacturer with 125 manufacturing sites and 65 data centers, faced rising complexity and availability risks as it grew through acquisitions. Its decentralized IT and fragmented SAN environment made it hard to guarantee 24/7 manufacturing uptime and reliable disaster recovery, so the company needed to consolidate infrastructure, simplify storage management, and minimize costly downtime.
ON Semiconductor standardized on NetApp FAS and All Flash FAS systems running ONTAP, added an on-site NetApp engineer, and used SnapMirror replication to build a resilient “Shield” data fabric. The move delivered a ~50% average application performance uplift, reduced RTO by 26% (from 5 to 3.5 days) and RPO by 50% (48 to 24 hours), consolidated 84 racks to 24, cut costs by 30%, and lowered data center power use by 40%, all with nondisruptive operations and seamless data-center migrations.
