A NetApp Case Study
Norfolk County Council, which serves nearly 900,000 residents across a wide range of public services, needed to maximise value for taxpayers by speeding service delivery and making its multivendor ICT environment more flexible and cost effective. Aging servers, storage and backup systems slowed provisioning and recovery, and the council wanted a shared‑services model that could accurately track resource usage and support external partners without adding staff.
The council deployed NetApp FAS storage and NetApp OnCommand Insight to create a pooled, multitenant infrastructure with automated monitoring, reporting and fast provisioning. As a result, new projects are provisioned in weeks (two weeks in one example) rather than months, backup/restore and reporting times fell from hours to minutes, and storage efficiencies improved—about 26% from deduplication, 29% from compression and nearly 63% from thin provisioning—enabling more services for residents without increasing staff.
