A NetApp Case Study
The City of Baton Rouge faced rapidly growing digital workloads and an aging, maxed-out storage infrastructure that threatened uptime for critical services—email, courts, 911, and first responders—while budget limits delayed mainframe refreshes and forced departments to deploy disparate systems. Paper-based processes and inadequate disaster recovery during frequent hurricanes compounded the risk to operations and public safety.
Deploying NetApp FAS8020 systems with ONTAP across two data centers, the city consolidated storage, added dark-fiber redundancy, and used NetApp Snapshot replication for fast failover. The new solution quadrupled usable space, reduced failover to under an hour, sped email and records access, enabled a new ERP and future body-camera storage, and lowered total cost by eliminating disparate systems.
