A NetApp Case Study
Mt. San Rafael Hospital, a community hospital serving Trinidad, Colorado, faced a major IT challenge: aging, decentralized infrastructure that threatened EMR adoption, business continuity, and cybersecurity as federal mandates and patient-care demands increased. Under CIO Michael Archuleta, the hospital needed a modern platform to support electronic health records, real-time analytics, and reliable access to patient data.
The hospital built a new data center and standardized on NetApp AFF all‑flash storage with Splunk for predictive analytics, while virtualizing servers and desktops and adding enterprise networking and off-site backups. The changes delivered dramatically higher reliability and efficiency—uptime rose from 59% to 99.9%, costs fell 56%, servers and desktops reached ~99% and >90% virtualization respectively, EMR performance stabilized, and predictive analytics helped reduce readmissions and sepsis incidents.
