A NetApp Case Study
Moffatt & Nichol is a global engineering firm with 29 offices that depends on large volumes of project data (up to 20 TB online and roughly 50 GB processed daily). Its aging tape-based backup and manual disaster-recovery processes were slow and fragile—backups in some offices took more than 12 hours, retrieval was inconsistent due to mixed tape formats, and the company needed faster access, stronger data protection, and greater IT agility and cost-efficiency.
Working with ePlus, Moffatt & Nichol deployed VMware vSphere on a FlexPod platform (NetApp FAS3240 storage, Cisco UCS servers and Nexus networking) using NetApp Snapshot, SnapVault, SnapMirror and deduplication. The new solution cut daily backup traffic from about 300 GB to 5 GB, reduced recovery times from hours to minutes, enabled server provisioning in under 15 minutes, saved up to $10,000 per remote office, lowered administrative costs by 15%, improved HPC performance, and centralized historical project data for better business continuity.
