MAXIMUS Canada: Quickening the Pulse with Health Services Delivery Using All-Flash Arrays

MAXIMUS Canada, which administers British Columbia’s Medical Services Plan and PharmaCare, faced a performance and supportability challenge as its virtual desktop infrastructure scaled. With call centers handling millions of calls and strict service-level targets, growing storage I/O from additional VDI and dev/test workloads began to degrade responsiveness and threatened secure, timely access to sensitive health data.

To fix this, MAXIMUS moved 500 virtual desktops to NetApp EF-Series all‑flash arrays (with images on NetApp FAS) via partner Long View Systems, deploying the SAN in half a day over iSCSI. The change delivered up to 20x storage performance, sustained submillisecond latency (peaks ~0.5 ms), centralized management that eliminated physical desktop visits, reduced opex, and helped MAXIMUS meet/exceed service levels, win renewals, and attract new business.
