A NetApp Case Study
Makedonski Telekom, Macedonia’s leading telecom provider and part of the Magyar/Deutsche Telekom group, faced a fragmented archiving environment: Symantec and OpenText archives each used different hardware, legacy systems had high maintenance costs, and the IT team needed a single, open platform to meet compliance, WORM requirements, disaster recovery, and to serve any kind of data. The goal was to simplify operations, reduce costs, and consolidate archival and active data onto one manageable infrastructure.
Working with Infinite Solutions, Makedonski Telekom unified archives onto two NetApp FAS3240HA systems with SnapMirror replication across two data centers, SnapLock WORM for compliance, and Snapshot integration with NetBackup. The consolidation replaced 20 Windows file servers, enabled a 300‑user VDI, and reduced storage needs by up to 60% through deduplication. Backups of 8 million files (~3 TB) now complete in 12 hours, administrative and licensing costs fell, restores and availability improved, and the company gained a scalable, one‑stop archive and data platform.
