Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics - Customer Case Study

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado Boulder supports more than 130 scientists working on large-scale astronomy and space-mission datasets—among the largest in the world after genomics. LASP needed to collect, manage, store, and distribute massive volumes of data with high performance for processing and cost-sensitive storage tiering to keep operations affordable.

LASP implemented NetApp solutions—AFF A-Series all-flash arrays for performance, StorageGRID for data management, and ONTAP FabricPool auto-tiering—to meet speed and capacity needs while reducing storage costs by about 50%. The environment, deployed with partner Peak Resources, also integrates seamlessly with cloud delivery methods so processed data can be distributed worldwide, improving researcher collaboration and productivity.
