A NetApp Case Study
Kärcher, a German manufacturer of cleaning products, sought to modernize its IT infrastructure as part of its cloud-first strategy. The company needed to migrate critical file services for its 14,000 users away from its hosted on-premises system. Kärcher required a solution that offered greater flexibility, scalability, and cost transparency to better support its fast-paced innovation and global operations. They partnered with vendor NetApp to find a suitable cloud-native solution.
NetApp implemented its Cloud Volumes ONTAP solution on AWS, enabling a seamless live migration of 190TB of data. The solution utilized NetApp FabricPool for intelligent data tiering, automatically moving infrequently accessed data to lower-cost S3 storage. This resulted in a 20% reduction in storage costs, allowing Kärcher to extend its backup retention from 30 days to 6 months. The migration was completed within three months, providing high availability, robust disaster recovery, and uninterrupted service for users, solidifying NetApp's role in Kärcher's digital transformation.
