A NetApp Case Study
ITOCHU Techno‑Solutions Corporation (CTC), a major Japanese IT solutions provider, set out to modernize its eWork environment to boost productivity and ensure business continuity. CTC needed a virtual desktop solution that could support diverse terminals and per-user application flexibility—addressing limitations of its thin‑client setup and conventional PCs—while providing high availability across sites.
CTC deployed Microsoft VDI on Windows Server 2012 R2 with NetApp clustered Data ONTAP (NetApp FAS in active‑active, Flash Cache, OnCommand) and used SMB 3.0 for Hyper‑V–to‑storage connections plus Hyper‑V replication across two data centers. The system delivered improved availability and operational efficiency, resolved storage failover/session issues, achieved 70–80% deduplication for significant storage savings, and is now positioned as an advanced customer showcase with plans to add API-driven automation.
