A NetApp Case Study
Energia Communications, a regional telecommunications carrier in Japan’s Chugoku region, leveraged its extensive optical-fiber network and customer relationships to launch EneWings Cloud, a high-quality, high-security cloud service for corporate customers. The company faced the challenge of building a cloud infrastructure that could host mission‑critical systems with guaranteed resource allocation, native file services compatible with customers’ Active Directory, multi‑tenant isolation, and the flexibility to meet diverse future needs — all while shortening time-to-market.
Energia implemented a verified FlexPod solution combining Cisco UCS servers and Nexus networking, VMware vSphere virtualization, and NetApp FAS storage in an active/active configuration with SnapMirror/SnapRestore protection. The result was rapid, reliable deployment (service launched Dec 2011), stable operations with no major hardware or performance issues, secure multi‑tenant storage, growing customer adoption (including a Hiroshima local government), and expanded service options (UTM, VPN, web conferencing) with plans to extend multisite disaster recovery across its data centers.
