Hamilton improves and saves lives with data

Hamilton, a global maker of life‑science precision instruments, faced rapidly rising data and storage demands as production scaled up during the COVID‑19 pandemic. With manufacturing and R&D spread across multiple countries and strict long‑term retention and compliance requirements for test and device logs, Hamilton’s existing storage infrastructure was nearing its performance limits and needed a secure, compliant solution that could be expanded without disrupting operations.

Working with partner Diwega, Hamilton replaced its aging systems with a NetApp ONTAP 6‑node cluster plus E‑Series backup, implementing two storage classes (flash for VMs and databases, disk for file/WORM data) and using NetApp Snapshot, SnapMirror/SnapVault, and SnapLock with Commvault and VMware for live, protocol‑by‑protocol migration. The upgrade cut CPU load to 20–30%, reduced latency to under 1 ms, doubled incremental backup speed, simplified operations and compliance, and delivered scalable, secure storage to support future growth.
