A NetApp Case Study
A U.S.-based global software developer needed to shorten time to market and accelerate development cycles but was constrained by storage-related build bottlenecks, architectural limits of PCIe SSDs, and the need to scale for ongoing fixes and new releases. Slow, I/O‑intensive Windows-based builds were limiting the number of daily compilations and reducing the ability to iterate and test rapidly.
The company deployed NetApp EF540 flash arrays as high‑throughput scratch space alongside NetApp FAS6280 systems running Data ONTAP, using SANtricity, deduplication, FlexClone, and SnapMirror to speed builds, reduce storage footprint, and replicate work globally. The solution doubled build throughput (delivering up to 6 GB/sec), cut storage needs by about 40×, improved availability and build quality, enabled more frequent release cycles, and allowed developers to run many more iterative, high‑I/O builds per day.
