A NetApp Case Study
WuXi NextCODE is a global leader in genomic data, building the world’s largest disease‑specific datasets to help biopharma and medical researchers discover drug targets and biomarkers. Its work must scale to enormous data volumes—each human genome has 3.2 billion bases and scientists predict up to 2 billion genomes may be stored by 2025—while quickly pinpointing the few critical variants that drive disease. Moving to the cloud exposed differences in storage performance versus on‑premises systems, causing timeouts and file failures that threatened the company’s ability to retrieve thousands of genomes simultaneously.
To solve this, WuXi NextCODE adopted NetApp Cloud Volumes Service (primarily on AWS) for the performance, scalability, and cloud integration it needed. The service eliminated timeouts, enabled larger workloads with higher throughput, and sped up genomic queries and comparisons against reference variation databases. Easy setup and scalable snapshots simplified testing and reduced resource requirements, allowing WuXi NextCODE to deliver faster, large‑scale genomic analysis that accelerates research and drug discovery.
