Frazier & Deeter Grows Its Bottom Line with NetApp Flash Pool

Frazier & Deeter is an Atlanta-based CPA firm of about 250 employees that was growing rapidly through organic growth and acquisitions. The firm deployed Citrix VDI to give tax and audit professionals flexible, remote access, but its HP LeftHand storage couldn’t keep up with read‑intensive workloads—users waited up to five minutes to access apps, Exchange and other critical systems saw high latency, backups were slow (tape restores could take days), and replication was unreliable.

Working with partner iVision, the firm deployed NetApp FAS2240 systems with Flash Pool intelligent caching plus NetApp Snapshot, SnapRestore, SnapMirror, SnapProtect, MultiStore and deduplication. Latency for VDI fell from 150 ms to 2.5 ms (98% reduction), virtual desktops are ready within 30 seconds, 90% of servers were virtualized, Exchange and SQL performance improved, and dedupe reclaimed about 86% of VDI capacity. The change enabled thin clients (cutting hardware costs ~50%), reduced tape use by 30%, enabled user-driven restores, sped onboarding, and increased productivity and billable hours.
