ExamWorks Deploys Cisco, NetApp, and VMware for Triple Growth, Three-Rack Data Center, $1.5M Savings

ExamWorks, an Atlanta-based independent medical examination and review company, was pursuing rapid national growth through acquisitions and needed a flexible, highly available IT infrastructure that could integrate disparate systems, ensure five-nines availability, and control data center space and costs. The CTO required a platform that would quickly virtualize acquired applications, centralize services, and support strict security and compliance needs while minimizing capital and staffing expense.

ExamWorks deployed VMware vSphere/View on Cisco UCS with NetApp storage (implemented with partner Coleman Technologies), consolidating its data center into a three-rack footprint that currently hosts ~24 virtual servers and ~190 virtual desktops and supports 450 employees across 17 sites (and scales to >2,000). The integrated solution delivered simplified management, rapid provisioning, five-nines availability, eliminated PC refresh cycles and the help desk, and produced roughly $1.5M in savings (including >$1M in staffing-cost avoidance and nearly $500K in capex/opex reductions) while enabling seamless, scalable growth.
