Despegar.com, founded in Argentina in 1999, is the largest online travel agency in Latin America, operating across multiple countries. Rapid growth and doubling data volumes strained its ability to deliver new features—developers were dependent on ops and QA for provisioning, limiting deployments to just 2–3 applications per week and slowing time to market.

Despegar moved to a hybrid cloud—OpenStack-based private cloud in its Miami data center integrated with AWS public cloud—and deployed NetApp storage (FAS3250/FAS6280, clustered Data ONTAP, Flash Cache, MetroCluster) with NetApp services. NetApp’s direct OpenStack integration and automated provisioning enabled self-service, near-instant volume creation and nondisruptive scaling; as a result Despegar now deploys up to 200 applications per day, maintains 24/7 private-cloud availability, and can absorb rapid data growth.
