Delivering Specialized Care with Fast Access to Patient Data

Schweizer Paraplegiker-Zentrum (SPZ), one of Europe’s leading hospitals and research centers for spinal cord injuries, expanded its Citrix XenDesktop environment from 20 to more than 200 users and ran into back-end storage bottlenecks. Slow logins (up to 90 seconds) and sluggish clinical applications during peak times threatened caregivers’ ability to access vital patient information quickly and limited further scaling.

SPZ migrated its virtual desktops to a NetApp All Flash FAS AFF2552 (with automated replication to a FAS2240 for disaster recovery) with support from NetApp partner Diwega. The move cut login times by two-thirds, made master image deployments five times faster, reclaimed about 25,000 staff hours per year (roughly 200 caregivers saving ~30 minutes daily), and delivered consistent application performance while enabling future mobility and scale.
